Hake
Surprisingly less well-known in the UK, this delicious, sustainable member of the cod family is a favourite in the Mediterranean, where most of the UK catch goes. Hake is a prime white fish, low in fat, with a subtle, sweet taste and succulent, meaty flesh that firms up well on cooking and can be matched with stronger flavours.
Our delicious North Atlantic hake fillets are carefully removed from the bone by expert fishmongers in your choice of 150g, 200g or larger 250g portions.
If you have a recipe that requires hake steaks, please contact us by phone on 01305 761277 and we would be delighted to prepare a whole fish this way for you.
Our experienced fish buyers source North Atlantic hake directly from the market floor at Peterhead, and arrange for it to be filleted, packed in ice, then shipped overnight to arrive at the shop in Weymouth the next day.

Hake’s popularity is based on its versatility. Like most white fish, it’s tasty on its own, or can be paired with flavours as diverse as chorizo, horseradish and coconut. It’s excellent grilled, pan-fried or baked, or battered and deep-fried.
A whole roast hake makes a fabulous centrepiece served at the table. absorbs flavours well, so stuff the cavity with delicate aromatics like fennel, lemon and thyme.
Grill or pan-fry fillets in olive oil and serve with Mediterranean vegetables, like a ratatouille.
